[DeTomaso] Engine run anomalie

Boyd,
It is possible that the float is too high or the needle is leaking by and flooding the engine. If this is the case holding the throttle to the floor and cranking for awhile should start the engine. The excess fuel would evaporate after a time and that could explain why it starts after sitting awhile.
