Maybe it's standard equipment now.   Years ago, they'd deliver the pads 
without any pins unless you specified differently.

The new pads aren't configured exactly as the old ones are; as you did, 
it's necessary to use the old pads as a guide and gently file the protrusion to 
the appropriate shape.
