[DeTomaso] Motor plate or not?

It protects the rear of the block in the event of a clutch or flywheel
failure. Given the rpms a 351C can turn if you miss a shift or get carried away
with the rice-boys at a stoplight, risking a none-too-plentiful block is
foolish for the weight savings involved. With it missing, the starter may be
mis-registered to the flywheel ring gear, and the input shaft is pushed
further into the pilot bushing. Finally, the motor plate covers the bottom of the
bellhousing opening; without it, there's a large opening that scoops water,
dirt and road debris into the clutch area, possibly even damaging the lower
part of the ZF. My 2¢- J Deryke
