Be sure the nuts on the gauge are double-nutted with the connecting wire 
pinched between the two nuts. With a single nut, you're stressing the gauge 
internals while with the wire pinched between   two nuts and a wrench on both 
nuts, you can torque the outer one tight. Also, some owners report that 
using large amounts of teflon tape on the temp gauge sender sometimes causes 
ground-loop issues by electrically isolating the sender- which must be 
grounded. You could solder a ground wire to the brass case. Good luck- J Deryke
