Oh man it was like you were reading my mind!

Found a roll of similar stuff at work some six years ago.  It was 
labeled 3M something...
A friend at work who used to work as an aircraft mechanic in the 
National Guard took one look at said.. oh yea.. F4 tape.  Huh?  He told 
about it's properties and that they used to use it on -everything-.  I 
wrapped the end of a pencil with it in the morning, and that afternoon 
-tried- to get it off.  I eventually got it all off, but it was in a 
bazillion pieces.  Wherever tape had been had been wrapped onto itself, 
it was fused tight and would -not- separate.  Great stuff!

I was recently looking for a roll at home.  I thought I'd brought one 
from work when things were being thrown out.  I couldn't find it 
though.  Garth to the rescue (no pun intended).  I think I'll be buying 
a few rolls, the stuff seems to last for years without going bad.  Might 
as well stock up on it now.

This Rescuetape is pretty much the exact same thing,
