Pull the valve cover, get a flexible magnet and go searching.   You may have 
to pull the rocker arms and pushrods for additional access, but that should be 
sufficient to let you snatch them out.

I once dropped a lifter inside my Cobra engine (it stuck to the pushrod when 
I was pulling the pushrod out, then "clink" fell off the pushrod).   It took 
about 15 minutes and some creativity with the magnet and a screwdriver, but I 
finally got it positioned properly again.

Oh, those threaded things are called 'studs' and they should be secured 
inside the head with blue loktite.   You might as well take the opportunity to 
affix all of them while you're at it.

Oh, and before doing anything else, I'd give another look around.   It would 
suck to go through all that work only to find they had rolled under a tire or 
something.
