Actually no, Bill Wonder installed the DOHC Indy motor with his son long 
after the car was retired from racing.

The first few GT40s did use the 256 cubic inch (4.2 liter) pushrod Indy 
motor, however, and raced with them (entirely unsuccessfully) during the 1964 
season...
