Finally, after several people coming up to Ely over the years saying they are going to put a piece about SS on the air, it happened.  It was well done and hit all the major points.  Hopefully it will get more drivers to Ely!

I just watched it and loved the air time for the Pantera! I think we are on a role and Speed TV loves Panteras. So sign up for all those car shows this year and take your Pantera to all the races, your likely to get some camera time from Speed TV this year!

I think Dennis is a little jealous the Gearz piece has more airtime of the much faster Yellow pantera then his purple monster. 

I do spend a lot of time denying any rumour that Dennis is my father, after all he is only twice my age!

It was a good TV piece highlighting the Silver State event from May 2008 or actually the NORC (Nevada Open Road Challenge) which is coming up in 2 months and uses the same road as the Silver State in Sept. Lots of film of the town of Ely, the racers, their cars, the ShootOut, a few quick interviews, the day before the open road run, and the race on Sunday....some of the cars on course in the canyon road (including Jason and Nick at speed in his beautiful yellow Pantera and another shot of them in the parade on Friday...a good shot of my Pantera leaving the starting line) and plenty of film of cars going through the canyon (narrows) portion of the course.

Most of the half hour film focus was on the Silver State event and not so much on the cars or other drivers but it was a real positive piece and gives you an appreciation about the hype and excitement that gets people there twice a year in everything from Evo's to full on Winston cup unlimited race cars.

In the course of filming the event David got to play in one of Jerry Mall's (Owner of K&N Filters) '55 Chevy's and Jerry who is a big sponsor of the event was driving his twin turbo charged Viper which crashed when his Viper engine grenaded throwing engine oil an debris on the tires while Jerry was running through a long sweeper turn at speed at 150+. His car rolled and momentarily caught fire after he lost control of the Viper but Jerry was able to walk away with no injuries - testimony again to the tough safety standards required to run.

Jason and Nick averaged 140 MPH in the 145 and I DNF'd after losing the old steel decklid. Jason's car who most of you are all familiar with now is always a big crowd pleaser with the blue flames and attention to detail.  I did get tired of guys asking me if the bald guy in the yellow Pantera was my little bro'.

The postscript on my DNF was my Pantera's roof and quarter panels got banged up pretty good when one of the decklid pins worked lose but I was able to bring the car to a safe stop and drive it down to finish line after the rest of the cars had completed their runs.....shortley after we returned home we bought one of Larry Stocks CF decklids and hinged the pins and ran a good 150+ Average 4 months later at the September Silver State.
