[DeTomaso] Mobil 1 Oil... million mile test

I think the oil change interval requirements should also be considered.  My first experience with synthetic oil was Amsoil in a Yamaha 1100 about 28 years ago.  The factory interval was 2,500 miles, and I went 10,000 miles between changes for four consecutive years and at 40,000 miles the engine looked like new inside the valve covers.  The valves also required almost no shimming, and I almost felt guilty to throw away the new looking oil after 10,000 miles.

My personal belief is that dino oil oxidizes to some extent, and creates the gunk we see in motors, and synthetic oil doesn't, so the engine stays clean.  I'm not sure how that affects wear, but I think it's possible that some of the oxidation products may be abrasive.

Driving a million miles is pretty impressive. But it would be more
instructive with a control - another identical car running brand X dino oil.
If both cars reach a million miles, then we know that it's less an issue of
oil and more an issue of a well engineered and assembled engine.
