You're right. If this were to happen we would have a problem.
But it could only happen if there were no diesels on the road at that point in time, because the heavy loads in those engines requires ZDDP..
Still, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get a few bottles (or more) of concentrate to have around.

So what happens after the Government gets it's way and does away with ZDDP zinc oil additive for good? Then what? What kind of additive would/could you?use for a new or rebuilt engine? HIPO or not?

What you say is true-- any oil approved for a new car would be terrible for a
flat-tappet engine.
But if you use a gas-diesel approved oil like Delo or Rotella will still be OK
as of now.
That could change in the future if the government requires further reductions
in those oils also.

I?have recently become aware that current motor oils are profoundly lacking
enough zinc to adequately lubricate older engines.?
One of my MGC customers has had a major failure with his new Cam.?? I now learn

that lack of sufficient zinc (ZDDP) in the oil is probably a supporting if not
causation of the problem.? I now am now on board with what looks to be the best

solution on the market...."ZDD plus".??? Anyway I wanted to offer the
group an
opportunity to purchase a small quantity (5 4oz bottles) at a 25% discount to
the retail price of $9.95/bottle.? That would be enough to do 5 oil changes.?
Moss gets $12/bottle with their dealer cost still over the MSR of $9.95
A brief run down of the problem:

?
More information about the product I sell at:
http://www.zddplus.com/
?
This is a real problem for pre catylitic cars with flat lifters.? I hope to
have
much more posted to my web site very soon.? This product has 4 times as much as

the GM marketed brake in oil and is light years ahead of most any modern oil.?
There seems to be a lot of chest pounding and out and out untruths about
several
modern oils but the bottom line is that if it is recommended for a new car it
doesn't have sufficient ZDDP....reason being zinc eats catylitic
converters.?
?
