[DeTomaso] Dog Bone end

Over the 20 or so yrs since Hi-Tek first brought out the dogbone-style air
cleaner, there have been many models sold:
Hi-Tek
B & M (with and without the B & M logo cast on top)
Holley (which may be a modified B & M)
and now Barry Grant's sort-of Triangular Dogbone.

Some likely will flow air better than others, but no one ever talks about
WHAT UNIT THEY USED for their results, which only adds to the confusion. IMHO,
all are far too heavy for the job they do. For those who like their unit- fine.
For those contemplating a purchase, if your engine then runs out of breath
above 5500, consider adding a simple spacer to lift the assembly up and see if
that helps. Thats all it took to correct the flow restriction with a Hi-Tek on
the Nor-Cal Pantera.
FWIW, one Nevada owner had to cut his engine screen to make any air cleaner
fit, so he sculpted out a close-fitting opening around a dogbone and its
filters, then edged the cutout with tubing, and had the results chromed. Dunno what
intake manifold he had mounted, but the top of the dogbone was less than an
inch above the early screen. It was attractive with the visible polished no-logo
aircleaner and the chromed screen, but seemed like a lot of work. He was not
a racer- more of a show-car guy, so it suited him. Enough discussion?- J
