Yes- Forest Goodheart did this on his Magnecharged Pantera with 
dual-side-draft TBIs, and I'm sure someone with a dogbone cleaner has tried to fix the 
restriction this way. Simple to do.
As far as Toyotas, my turbo-MR 2 airbox was completely removed and a 
triangular foam "air cleaner" was added by the former owner, to totally get rid of all 
inlet restriction and slightly increase boost (and inlet roar). Not good for 
cylinder walls in dusty areas, though. Judy's blown Forerunner still runs a 
stock airbox; should I open that thing up a little? Cheers- J DeRyke
