I really like my Holley HiTek/B&M "Dog Bone" type air filter assembly, thus
far no complaints of being down on power with it, but no sustained 5,500 rpm
jaunts either, I suspect as stated here that were I to do something like an
ORR with the car that i would indeed add a 3/4-1" spacer between the bottom
of the unit and the carb to simply reduce turbulence if nothing else. On
the street with my Yates tunnel ram intake, rear vision is already
compromised, adding another inch would make the rear view mirror virtually
useless. If you check out my website (www.michaelspantera.com) you will see
that mine started life as a polished unit new out of the box, while many of
you like the "Bling" factor, I thought that it was simply too much for the
car as it stole focus from the rear of the car. I have always thought that
a Pantera's best angle was from the rear 3/4 view where the rear fenders and
low roof form that Cat-like "Pouncing attitude". So I sanded the polish off
using 400 grit sandpaper, sprayed it with primer for aluminum and then
applied 3 coats of black wrinkle paint to make the unit match the valve
cover finish, I also think it helps that my block is black and should the
opportunity present itself, I may very well wrinkle or wrinkle powder coat (
does that exist? ) the bell housing and ZF and use S/S acorn nuts to dress
it up. I like the Heavy Duty, High Tech appearance more than "Bling", but
that's what great about our cars, they can be easily changed to suit ever
owner, from stock, to Bling to Black to Gold Plated.

I really like the Spectre unit referenced in an earlier version of this
thread ( page 32 of the Summitt Catalog ) , unfortunately it looks like I
can't use that either as a result of the intake being so tall. But that
would look so sweet in black wrinkle. I don't see why the same design
couldn't be done easily in CF, that would be the best possible version using
a set of conical K & N filters from a Mustang or Excusrion Hyper charger
kit.
