Why would a road paving machine need a 5 speed transmission? The ones I've
seen don't move over about 5 MPH.

On the subject of ZFs, as Tomas said there's much more to them than what's
in
the average DeTomaso sports car. Lloyd Butfoy of RBT Transmissions refers to
very early Pantera dash-2 ZFs as 'dash-1-1/2' versions since they use the
Pantera differential case (flipped over) with the Mangusta dash-1 gearbox,
gearing and a Pantera rear cover. Parts are understandably very
rare/expensive for
such a combination.
Since the ZF was first used in a Swedish pavement-building machine called a
'Fendt Roller', Tomas in Sweden has adapted a Fendt remote lube reservoir
system to his pushbutton Pantera. There are other examples.... J DeRyke
