[DeTomaso] Rebuilding BOSS heads to hydraulic lifters

On original hydraulic lifter heads, the rocker pedestals are 'forked' on top
and the steel non-adjustable rockers fit a half-moon shaped pivot that indexes
to the shallow fork in the pedesal. Things are calculated so when a hex-bolt
thru the rocker pivot is torqued down, the lifter piston is centered.... as
long as nothing has been changed or not too many valve grinds have been done.

Mechanical lifter heads are built exactly the same except 0.300" is machined
off each rocker pedestal, which removes the fork. The std rocker pivot no
longer fits so a stud is installed and a locking adjusting nut is used to set
valve adjustment. Boss heads were built like this, along with two small
squish-areas in each combustion chamber that made more power and compression- the
so-called 'closed-chamber' heads. There were factory open chamber heads (combustion
area looked like a shallow bowl with no squish areas) built for adjustable
rockers, too. These were called 'HO' heads. Cheers- J Deryke
