Don't think you can buy it under that name except maybe from NAPA. If you 
try to use a Hitachi gear-drive starter from a Nissen 300ZX on your Cleveland 
or Chevy, you'll find that the vendors that sell these things engineered 
nose castings and bendix gears that fits whatever engine you select. But the 
original Japanese starter fits only a V-6 Nissen block & flywheel. In 
addition, shops like Tilton replaced plain bushings in the japanese starters with 
ball bearings, and upgraded the solenoid contacts for high electrical loads 
starting big V-8s. Others just bolted on the adapters. Thats why gear-drive 
ministarter costs are all over the map. Tilton. McLeod, Hamburger and many 
others sell them and the motors all look identical but the nose castings vary. 


Theres also a new series of gear-drive ministarters from Ford and GM that 
are not based on the Hitachi and look much differently but work and weigh the
