The stock 351C thermostat in its stock location is a known water flow
restriction by its design. Moving the thermostat to a remote location apparently
allows more water to flow through the heads and block, which will always
reduce engine temp at least a little. Several cars came stock this way; my
mid-engined '87 V-6 Fiero had a remote thermostat.
But there may be another, less complicated way.... I recently found that
not all thermostats open the same amount- some open wider, some openonly a
little but are "high flow", and then there are the cheap ones. I'm working on
an article to explore all this, if you can wait for a bit. All the parts
I'm checking will simply drop into the block in the stock location and manner.
One of interest is 5X the cost of a Kragen's Special, but may be worth
it.... More later- J Deryke
