Right on Ken. . .Doesn't the professor teach at a university or government 
lab?

P.S. Could the government do any worse then what GM did? Maybe they outta contact Fiat.

I guess it may be that way some places.  In aerospace there was a lot of politics and "not invented here" going on.  The absolute worst were the government labs and the universities.  Building organizations and getting funding was much more important than doing real engineering.  I hate to see what they will do to GM

It is almost comical to think that a leadership engineering culture that has been developing for over 60 years looks to "copy" solutions from other powerplants.
There is no doubt the powertrain engineers at GM evaluate specific solutions in other engines produced by competition.
Every engineering group in the world does that.

The interrelationship of engine development criteria results in a rich field of possible options.  The choices are based on science and merit, not on what some other manufacturer did last year with their port surfaces or piston crown shape.

Combustion chamber science today is one of the most advanced in the world.  A solution that is good for one application may not be good for another.
