Hey, we're talking small blocks, LOL.
I bet if you looked hard enough, you'd find a staggered valve engine the predated the 65 396. There were a lot of really creative engine designs in the early 1900s.

I assume you realize that the truely "modern" heads on the current Chevy NASCAR engines look much more like Cleveland heads than either the traditional SBC or the LS series engines? At least Chevy got it right for NASCAR.
