It is inside the little transmissions bolted into the window crank
mechanisms. The access cover, having been designed by the French, is unfortunately
removable with screws that face the outside of the door so the whole
mechanism must be removed to change gears. Based on experience, it will take about
an hour to remove the first one you ever do. After that, it will take about
15 minutes. From Ted MItchell's intruction booklet for his cable-drive window
lift conversion, the easiest place to remove the stock mechanism is the
counter-intuitive UPPER smaller opening, NOT the lower larger one! Other than
that, info posted on various web sites describes the job. FWIW, the exact
same transmission is also used in the Pantera headlight erection mechanism and
the plastic gear in there breaks as well, so many of us have bought three
bronze 'window' gears. The headlight transmission removes more easily,
obviously. Good luck- J Deryke
