Some of those hard-anodized aluminum master cylinders were made by CNC, a 
dirt-track specialist shop in L.A. They normally do not wear out. The 
blackness is carbon from old hoses or seals, or rust from the steel lines, possibly 
due to the fluid never having been changed. A rebuild followed by a flush 
during bleeding should fix the color problem. If you still want to change, I 
suggest a stainless steel one from one of the vendors. Be prepared for 
misery 'cause swapping the clutch master is one of those truely fussy jobs done 
mostly under the dash with little wrenches, scribes & Vice-grip pliers.... 
Expect to lose at least one hair-fine snap-ring. Good luck- J Deryke
