[DeTomaso] Worn distr. gear symptoms ?

Its probably the damn gear.... which is why its not recommended to use 
bronze gears on street cars. When the teeth wear- which happens pretty quickly 
depending on gear and cam, the timing is retarded during acceleration oand 
advance during deceleration, exactly backwards to what you want. 
 
Its also possible the distributor drive gear pin has partially sheared, 
radically retarding your ignition timing. For reasons known only to marketing 
weenies, even the $350 aftermarket fire-under-tar distributors STILL use the 
cheap coil-of-metal spring pin which shears just like a stocker does. Be 
VERY sure the pin in your distributor is made of heavy metal and has a slot its 
full length, so you can see light through it. Then add a SECOND identical 
pin inside the first. Good luck- J Deryke
