I second AJ's applause for Kirk's kits. Originally they weren't offered
with a removable center section; mine was the beta tester for that feature,
which really makes the whole kit exceptionally worthwhile.

The quality of construction and engineering is unmatched. I must say that
I was a bit dubious of the scheme to keep the water pump belt tight. Kirk
relies on a perfect fit of a specific belt; installation is accomplished by
removing the water pump pulley, then cramming it all back together. But
if the belt stretches, you're hosed. If you buy a replacement belt
nominally of the same size, production tolorences might be enough so that the belt
would slip, which would be a disaster.

Dennis Quella cooked up a bolt-on idler pulley setup that allows you to
properly adjust the belt tension. It's beautifully made, and a bit expensive,
but the peace of mind is worth it. It comes with a new, longer belt as
well. It simply bolts to the front of the water pump.

Here's a photo of my Kirk Evans flat firewall kit (which relocates the
alternator to the side, driven by the A/C pump) and the Dennis Quella idler
pulley setup:
