If you're using an MSD Ready to Run distributor, no ballast resistor is required according to 
the MSD tech forum. Check feedback to similar questions here:

FWIW, I had to install a Ballast Resistor with the MSD Blaster 2 coil when I installed my 
Mallory Unilite Electronic Distributor from Quella.
