[DeTomaso] Optimal Air Fuel Ratio Question

Additional thought: be very careful setting a carb up too close to the 
stoichiometric ideal of 14.7:1. If you do this in L.A at 0 ft of altitude and 
drive to Reno at 5000 ft, you'll be quite rich and will lose maybe 20% of the 
engine's power due to lack of oxygen. So you rejet again, drive to Denver at 
10,000 ft and you're again way-overrich and even further down on power. 
Rejet once again and drive back to LA, where you burn a valve 'cause you're now 
dangerously lean. Carbs outa-the-box are set rich 'cause they have no idea 
where you live or where you're gonna go, and warranty returns depress 
everyone. 
One wonderful thing about EFI is their automatic barometric fuel/air 
adjustment. Wish it had come along while carbs were being made.... J Deryke
