I agree with Jack. The metal up there is very easily bent and there is no  
good way to get up there and push it back into shape because of some bracing 
 that runs under the skin at that part of the door - the flat, horizontal 
top of  it. Jack's idea of a plate under the area where you want to mount the 
mirrors  makes great sense since it takes the stress off the door skin and 
transfers it  to the bracing under the skin.
