[DeTomaso] Exhaust Valve Not Closing?

Even computer Ludites (correct term ?) can operate the common digital camera today,
even me!

So... Switch the camera into movie mode, turn on the car & camera, and move the camera
around from near the exhausts (both banks) to around the distributor, and down the
other side exhaust, then move it along the valve covers.

Make sure you don't burn yourself, or swear!

On my wife's computer, it has MS Movie Maker (part of the "Media Center" package).
If you have that, you can compress the file to make it smaller, and thus easier to e-mail.

If not... then stop recording after 10-20 seconds, to make a few files and not one BIG
one. Your e-mail program and/or ISP may limit the maximum size of a file to e-mail.

My wife's camera has several recording (size/resolution) modes.

If you can play the video back "in camera" before you copy it to your computer
you know the recording worked while still at your car.

You can also call my cell and I can walk you thru it.

Chuck,
You are talking to a computer retard here. Although I did just try for
the first time recording a video with my camera and I'll be damned if it
didn't work! I just wonder if the audio quality is good enough to tell the
difference between a ticking in the valve train and an exhaust leak? I
might go out and give it a try.

Thanks,
Art

You know the Registry holds video clips?

Video clips have sound!

Then if Art adds (another) video clip to the Registry, you can hear the
before and
the after! The before was only 2 weeks ago, so it is current.

Art,

Please describe the sound in detail rather than guesses as to what you think
it sounds
like. For example, stating it sounds like an exhaust leak doesn't give us
the ability to
confirm or deny your diagnosis. Asa has asked some good questions. Here are
some
more...

- What gear were you going to when you missed the shift?
- Was it during a hard launch?
- Were you in or coming out of a turn?
- Does your car have the stock oil pan?
- Does it make the noise only when revving the engine? Or anytime you cruise
over a
certain RPM?
- Does it sound like ball bearings being shaken in a can?
- Does it only make sound on acceleration or deceleration, or both?
- Any other useful info to describe the sound and when it occurs.

The reason I ask these questions is because I think you starved the engine
for oil and
spun a rod bearing.

Cheers!
Garth
