Agree on all points. The car was a 1992.  Just passing along what the tech told me at that time for Ford.

How old was your Taurus?
You have to remember that every company has different manufacturing criteria, at different points in time.  The age and size of the car enters into it.  Tolerance bands that existed 10 years ago are no longer considerable in the industry.
Today you can see cars built , American cars, with door cuts that are 2 1/2 millimeters or less.  Those cuts are on the outside edge of the
vehicle manufacturing envelope.--
