[DeTomaso] Booster talk

Larry,

Fear not, the secondary piston (plunger) is moved by hydraulic pressure, not the spring. The spring is there to push the primary piston back to its point of origin so the opening to the fluid reservoir is not covered. When the primary piston moves past the reservoir port the secondary piston immediately starts to move from the primary circuit pressure.

Call me crazy, and many do, but I think the design of the master cylinder
plunger sucks. I would never want the front 1/2 of the piston being pushed
by a spring! If the bore got gooped up the piston would not move forward,
the spring would just collapse. I want to regulate the pressure by the
amount I push with my leg, not the amount of movement the spring is
allowing.

I think I am going to shoot mine when I go home tonight.

Larry (still crazy) - Cleveland

You'd have to turn down the front part of the slave piston and sleeve down
half the bore for that piston in order to get a change in pressure. I think
you'd need a notably longer cylinder and piston combination to retain
sufficient clearances to make the two circuits work with redundancy to
failure in one circuit. I can look for it and we can take it apart together.
Note that my cylinder is very early in case they changed during production.

Thanks.

I found a photo of a disassembled cylinder here:
http://www.brakecylinder.com/oddsandends.htm

Although it is a Bonaldi, it appears to be very similar, if not identical.

I guess a dual master setup with a balance bar is the simplest to get
working.

I also noticed that the GT5 use a cylinder with a larger bore (25mm)
than earlier cylinders (22 or 23 mm).
