[DeTomaso] Stalling

I experienced the same thing as Tomas. My carb was tilted due to the normal
cant on a non-Pantera specific intake. I was having problems with the car
stalling under braking. When I hit the brakes, and with the air filter
removed, I could see fuel gushing out the boosters - not the vents. I don't
remember which boosters - front or rear.

I bought vent whistles, but the relatively new carburetor already had them.

I bought jet extensions. They didn't help. By the way, there are 2 kinds.
One kind is as J.T. described. The other type slips over the jet. You
could probably make your own with a short section of hose.

I adjusted the fuel level (floats) up and down. I couldn't find the sweet
spot.

I finally leveled the carb and readjusted the floats by-the-book. The
problem went away. I could stand on the brakes without killing the engine.

And then I got the fever. The Weber fever.

Jet extensions on the secondaries may help; although, they are intended to
keep the jets immersed in fuel under acceleration. I suppose they may help
under high braking. Extensions are about one inch long and screw into the
threads where the main jets go; then, the main jets thread into them. Under

acceleration when the fuel sloshes to the back of the float bowl. they help
ensure the jets remain in the puddle.

On second thought, assuming heavy braking moved the fuel in the float bowl
forward enough to expose the secondary's main jets to air, there still may
be adequate fuel in the circuit to contribute to the problem.

I have the extensions on my carb; however, I haven't tested with and without

under heavy braking.
