I seem to recall reading in the POCA newsletter that the Taurus solution
worked fine for the windows but was all-but-unworkable for the headlights, for
some reason I can't recall?

There's absolutely nothing wrong with the stock motor for the headlights;
all it needs is a brass gear. If the motor is well and truly shot, there
are plenty of used ones out there, and even new ones aren't expensive enough
to make it cost-effective to switch. You'll invest far more time and
effort than the $$$ delta between a new Taurus motor and a new factory motor
would justify.
