[DeTomaso] Oil temp sending unit

I thought that the teflon fear was more about contamination in the oil than
about electrically isolating the sender. I guess you just need to be careful
with it

Charlie,

If it's a tapered thread it is supposed to seal without any aid from tape or
sealants. If it's a straight thread I'd use a copper washer under the head
and keep the threads as clean as possible. However, I have on my car used
teflon tape on all my senders for oil and water temperature, pressure sender
for oil and warning light for oil pressure and none has failed to work
despite this (they are all tapered threads). Unless you go wild with the
tape the threads will cut through and make contact somewhere along the
threads. I have not tried liquid sealant.
