Bill,

With respect to parts organization--get yourself hundreds of ziplock
bags in different sizes, 3x5 index cards and a marker. Before you take
anything apart, shoot plenty of photos with a digital camera. Keep a
log each day of the photos that you shot.

When you take a certain assembly apart, put all the various bits and
pieces that go together into a single bag. If there are subassemblies,
put them in smaller bags inside a single larger bag. Put a labelled
3x5 card inside each bag clearly stating what everything is. And if
there is anything not immediately obvious, print out and enclose photos
of the assembled assembly.

You can never have too many tools. I started off buying a three-chest
Craftsman tool kit--three boxes, and a fairly comprehensive assortment
of tools, for about $1400. Many of the tools I've never used, but the
others have paid for themselves many times over.

Over the years I found the need to buy three more tool chests, and have
filled them up with even more tools. Precision stuff warrants quality,
but for things like prybars, hammers, cleaning brushes, etc. etc.
Harbor Freight can't be beat.

HF's step drill package (three different step drills for $9.99) may
well be the best dollar-for-dollar tool investment you make. :>)
