I just got a quad core with Vista, Blu-ray, 7.1 speakers, and a 28"
monitor. Fun stuff. Dust to Glory has some serious pop.

I use a similar backup service from iBackup.com. After a couple of
drive failures, you get religion. The iBackup service is more
expensive, but it supports Macs and Linux as well as Windows. We use it
to do a nightly backup of the Linux-based POCA web site's files and
database. (I provide the space out of my own account, so there is no
cost to POCA.)

Subject: [DeTomaso] NPC- New Computer and Problems

Hello,

Thought I would share my hatred and then utter dislike of all things to
do
with computers TODAY and then tell you what made it go away.

I have bought and then rebuilt a new computer for work use, it's a
MONSTER (
like the Pantera of course ) 8 GB RAM, 64 bit, 4 TB Hard Drive, Dual
Core,
overclocked, water cooled, and it uses to my dismay VIsta of course
because
if you want blazing speed you have to go to 64 bit and Vista is it! I
have
Vista on my laptop and hated it until now.

Meanwhile I have been trying to migrate files from the old XP computer
to
the new Vista Computer, I bought the silly ass Easy Transfer cable, WHAT
A
POS that was. Then I decided to burn a few DVD and move files, then I
tried
using a couple of Seagate mini external drives of 500GB each, EVERYTHING
sucks, pop ups, malware, ad ware, conflicts, its enough that if it
didn't
cost so damn much that I seriously considered a 12 gauge #00 solution. (
Now
how many Hot Rod, Gun toting, Computer geeks do you know? )

Meanwhile it finally occurred to me that I subscribe to Carbonite, the
online back up service ( 49.95 a year ) and that i might be able to
simply
call them up and inquire if I could register the new computer and then
replace my account with the new one and delete the old one and download
all
of the backed up files through them.....duh.

Three freaking clicks man, not one additionally penny spent.

I was already sold on Carbonite because I have had to use it once since
I
subscribed and it saved my butt ( I accidentally deleted the one shot
from a
photo session that the client wanted to use for a magazine cover,
luckily I
had Carbonite set to automatically back up my files as they were added (
as
opposed to a scheduled time ) and the next day when the client said that
they wanted image XXX and I looked and IT was the ONE that I deleted, I
about crapped myself, not cool to call them back and say, duh I'm an
idiot,
I went online and sure enough, there was the photo that I needed safe
and
sound).

Anyway, Carbonite is a breeze, cheap to get, can be a life saver and the
easiest way in the world to get files from an old XP machine to a new
Vista
machine with no BS involved.

If you want a FREE test, send me a private email and I'll send you a
link
that will get you an additional month FREE on your subscription ( gives
me
one too ) if you decide to buy it.

Just thought I would share, because I was at my wits end before I
figured
out that I had what I needed the whole time.

Michael in Savannah

Pantera driv'n, 12 gauge aim'n, and now Vista enhanced at work.
