[DeTomaso] expoxy for manifold/intakes

Evening Mike

Ok, I know I am fixating on this intake gasket thing. Both the intake ,Weiland-X, and heads, Aussi 2vs, have the exhaust crossover ports and the Felpro gasket does not have a hole allowing exhaust heat to transfer into the intake and that is kinda why I was thinking about filling the manifold cross over with epoxy to decrease the possibility of hot exhaust gases heating the intake and the oil should the gasket fail. I guess I could cut out a piece aluminum the size of the crossover port in the intake and glue it in with RVT.

Cheers

Is there an epoxy or some other material that can be used to fill in the exhaust crossover tunnel under an aluminum intake manifold other than heated aluminum or fill the cross over ports in the heads. Or does it even matter since the intake gasket blocks the crossover port in the first place. It just seems like over time the exhaust and heat would wear away the gasket and start leaking into the crossover or worse along the gasket and manifold's sides.

A 351C intake gasket should have an opening in it to support the crossover port, right? I would therefore assume that your heads and gasket will have holes, but your intake does not? Yes, I suppose it's possible that exhaust gases could eat up the gasket and cause leaks there. If it's a concern, then perhaps I'd trim a thin sheet of aluminum or steel (slightly thinner than your intake gasket) to the size of the gasket opening and secure it to the surface of the head with RTV. That way, exhaust gases run into the patch you've made instead of the underside of the intake.

  Just a guess though....
