This comes up periodically and the answer is- some are and some aren't
metric. Mangustas and early Panteras got metric bolts while all Ford-built Panteras
(roughly, the '72s-'75s- most Panteras) got SAE bolts, and the diameters and
threads are so close, the nuts interchange metric-to-SAE! Not sure what the
post-'80s cars got; probably the 11mm European bolts. See my POCA News article
Feb 2004- 'Solving the Pantera Halfshaft Bolt Controversy'. The 'correct' bolts
can be had from all the vendors, from aircraft supply shops or from good
industrial bolt supply shops. The unthreaded or 'shoulder' length is critical; do
NOT use bolts threaded all the way to the head; they will break. And keep them
tight; even slightly loose will cause a vibration under acceleration. Good
luck- J DeRyke
