Jack, I've been following the discussion re: "carbon" brakes. Since I'm not
able to post to the List, here are some of my experiences with
Braketech.com/Starblade CMC Carbon/ceramic rotors on my '05 Suzuki GSXR1000 superbike.
I've mounted them on BST carbon-fiber wheels with Ti bolts. The rotors are
about 1/3rd the weight of stock. Two rotors save nearly 4 lbs. The total savings
w/everything is 20 lbs- all unsprung!
The rotors need no warm-up, work in the rain, are linear in braking force,
last forever, won't warp, but cost $1000 each! My first set developed slight
pitting on the Track,so they warranteed me another set. The factory wanted to
study my original set even though the flaws were largely cosmetic. Later, I ran
into the Chief Eng. at MotoGP to discuss my "famous" returned rotors. After
some talk Starfire sent me another new set or rotors w/pads+ an extra set for
display.

The Eng. shared the Company's plans for getting into the auto market. He
offered me a set to test if I got a car that would help their sales. Sadly, not
a Pantera -he said they wouldn't sell enough sets to us. At $1K+ per rotor, I
agree!
FWIW, Porsche Ceramic rotors are made in-house. Ferrari uses Brembo, as does
the Corvette ZR-1.
