Mine had the twisted base.

There are lots of stories with that car.  I completely used it up.

Was yours the twisted carb pad version or the later Torker II?

Single plane intakes tend to be more sensitive to engine combination and
tuning (carb spacers, etc.) than dual planes.  I know some people that
have had good luck with the Torker 289.  It may be that the Torker 289
is one of those intakes that works well on certain combinations.  Or it
may be that Alex was comparing it to the better single plane intakes like
the Victor Jr.
