[DeTomaso] Claude's road trip...

I also drove down a ways on Highway 1 this weekend just for fun.  Even
in a non-Pantera, a day of driving the twisties along the scenic coast
is a great day.  With good weather and top down, it can't be beat.
Unless I have to get to SoCal quickly, I always drive Highway 1.

Hi guys,

I got a phone call from Claude Dubois this afternoon; last I saw him, he
was 
driving away from the Oakland Airport in some sort of Nissan compact
rental 
car, in the midst of a driving rainstorm.

He was determined to take Hwy 1 down to Santa Barbara, rather than the
more 
conservative Hwy 101.   When I got home, I checked the weather and saw
that 
there were winds upwards of 45 mph, heavy rain, etc. etc. all the way
along his 
route.

He told me that he had a lot of fun, and there was no traffic on the
road.   
He did say that on one of the jumps, the car got blown sideways about a
meter.

Wait a minute?   Jumps?

"Oh yes, eef you go fast enough, there are man-ee jumps on Highway 1"
:>)

He said that try as he might, he couldn't get the car to oversteer.
"Eet 
drives like a plow, straight when you are turning.   The front
suspension, and 
steering, zey feel like zey are made of chewing gum!"

He went on to say, "I finally stop for a cup of coffee, and when I get
out of 
zee car, zee brakes, they are smoking and almost on fire!   But zee
whole 
road, eet was like a special stage on a rally, you know?   Ee-ven in a
sheetbox, 
eet's still a fun drive!"

This dude is 76 years old, but undoubtedly is still a better driver than
I'll 
ever hope to be--and funnier too!
