[DeTomaso] clutch retainer spring

On the throwout bearing, there is a spring that holds the clutch "fork" to the throwout bearing assembly.  Mine is broken.  Is it important to replace this spring, or is it better to leave it off?  Most cars do not have a spring the pulls the throwout bearing away from the pressure plate. justin
