Asa Jay,
I initially had the same concerns as you regerding the angle but
experience shows that the angle is easily adjusted by hand as needed
during the process. Of course Thomas and I have always done this as a
team and it might be easier to do alone if you do it differently.

Actually, between the photo posted earlier with the chains hooked to the
back of the heads and after reading Jack's post below, I got to
thinking.
Might it be even better, to use a carb plate along with the points at
the back of the engine? It appeared from the photo, that even lifting
at the back of the block, the whole assembly tilted far forward. If you
hooked even just a simple chain to a carb plate, you might get some
better load leveling.
Just a thought, I'll get to try it all out myself someday. :)
