Misfires can also be due to something as simple as moisture.
The 4.6L Ford's are particularly bad about it, due to the design
of the valve covers and placement of plugs and coils.  I started
getting misfiring in several cylinders after washing the engine
compartment.  It took several days of heat lamp and fan
treatment to dry it out.
