[DeTomaso] oil filter recommendations

Agree the Accusump is a great idea. . . I have used remote dual race HP-1 or Moroso filters for about 15 years with no problems

I am now going to a SINGLE HP6 or Wix Racing before year is out........... and here's why...

Look at the specs for both filters...I don't have the specs for either handy but MikeyD, Chuck or someone else should......... but if you hold both the HP1 and a HP6 side by side you will see that the HP6 filter is not only much bigger the filter opening is like TWICE as large.

Going to what I call the "SINGLE BIG MOFO FILTER" (tech term) (HP-6 or Wix Racing) which should increase oil flow and reduce restriction....that is if you want to believe guys like Mike Trusty and Dick Drenske who are both racers and mechanical engineers who do geeky flow tests and other geeky engineering stuff I don't understand for a living... ;-)>

If you live out in BFE buying from Summit or Jegs is a great idea if you don't mind paying the extra costs for shipping and handling otherwise just tell your local PeckerBoys or NAPA store rep what you need.

As I understand JOMAR filters do not have a bypass, but non bypass filters are not good for cold starts with a heavy weight oil as the oil can initially be too viscous to pass through the filter. That is why most race engines usually have an oil preheat.

If you are that level of concern for your engine's well being and longevity then IMO an Accusump is mandatory and the best way to go for filtration is remote dual bypass filters, the odds of both clogging and bypassing is slim unless of course you are already approaching catastrophic failure.

On the Summit note, if anyone needs parts that are in stock at the Sparks store where they would incur excessive shipping & handling charges, if you make your purchase for local pick up, I would be willing to pick them up and ship for actual cost. Just bear in mind that local sales incur a 7.725% sales tax.
