Excellent point. CV joints were stock on the stronger ZF 'Super-diffs' used
after 1980 on BMW M-1s and a few other sportscars. I'm not sure they're
strong enough to cope with total neglect in greasing though. Last time I talked
to Lloyd Butfoy, he had a few of the late model inner/outer stub axles and
matching halfshafts that use CV joints. The conversion would not be cheap
but once done it would be lighter and much neater than steel adapters needed
to run CVs on early halfshafts and stub axles. I've seen a couple of
conversions- one using BMW 735 CV parts and one using Porsche CVs. Welding is
required for changing the halfshaft ends, with fabricated adapters on the inner &
outer stub axles. Haven't seen Byars conversion yet; if anyone has god
photos, I'll run them in the POCA News. Thanks- J Deryke
