If you're thinking of the polished stainless steel ones like I got from Hall 20 yrs ago, they wouldn't do anything. The attachment tabs are very thin and you can move the whole thing around just with your hand.

ike...that's a great thought...I've seen some of those from the vendors and 
ust dismissed them as window dressing...they'd have to be quite think to 
ontain a half shaft. I will check with the vendors. Worse case my fabricator 
an build something similar with more beef. Thanks Mike.

The vendors sell stainless steel driveshaft covers, whose function is to both 
rovide some bling, and also to keep the U-joints from spooging grease all over 
he engine bay.   Although they're not overly strong, they would probably do a 
alfway decent job of containing the driveshaft in the event that the inner 
-joint broke.
