Tapered barrels screw off or on with some difficulty since the taper is 
hard to grip without scarring, and barrels are available in various lengths, 
designs and materials. If you buy a non-Ruger-made barrel, the thread-grip 
length may have to be adjusted a bit to get the integral front sight to wind up 
at the top of the barrel, but this is not difficult. Thus a less-desirable 
4-1/2" barrel length assembly can become a 6" or (more) barrel assembly at 
less than retail prices. Contoured hand-grips are easy to fabricate, too. The
