Dunno- during the First Annual Arab Fuel Crisis when such things began
appearing for sale, I found many back then were made primarily of aniline, a
benzene derivitive (benzene works by itself but now is classified as a
carcinogen and sales are restricted). Aniline is a dye precursor and stains things
yellow (including humans) but shouldn't foul Ox sensors. But there are many
kinds of Boosters and probably all use different stuff in their mixes.
Nowadays, I have no facilities to test such things, but by being nosy and
persistent, you could force legitimate manufacturers to send a MSDS (Material Safety
Data Sheet) with any interstate shipment. Then, a chemist could estimate
whether there's anything in the mix that might cause trouble. Failing this,
on-car testing is the only way to separate effectiveness, hype & rumor from
fact . Good luck- J Deryke
