Boyd,
 
    I wondered about the BMW also.  I talked to old guy a while back who was into Bonneville stuff and he said there was a big cloud of dust that followed Panteras on the salt, and that meant that a lot of drag was created by the shape of the rear of the car.  I think that agreed with the article, so the streamlined front is probably not the problem.

Has anyone had any luck downloading the non-condensed version of the
aerodynamics article. I can only down load the condensed article. It keeps
telling me the other file is corrupted. If you anyone has not looked at it
it shows very interesting illustrations of the airflow around the car. I am
interested in trying to work with the under the car aerodynamics to try to
limit lift and as a source for supplying cool air for the intake. It was
interesting to read that the BMW 540 ( a very square looking car)  (Square
as in cube shaped not square as in not cool) has a lower drag coefficient
then the Pantera which looks so streamlined! It just goes to show there is
allot more to it then just what you assume would be aerodynamically
efficient!
