Yes Mike, it is purely aesthetic. I have always thought that the black vents break up the lines a bit.

So, I know I'm going to get yelled at by some of you guys about this, but I want a hood with vents. Anybody out there have a vented hood that they would like to trade for a non-vented hood, before I cut mine? I have already ordered the Habachi grills. They should be in this week. My hood is white and near perfect. Maybe this doesn't matter because what are the odds of finding someone that wants to trade that also has a white hood.
On the contrary, you're to be applauded for making this appeal to the masses before you butcher a good hood!
What is the ambition behind your decision to cut the hood? It won't impact your cooling in any measurable way. Is your motivation exclusively aesthetic?
Mike
