Whoops. There's your problem. Platinum plugs are great, but have
specific uses. They have a very limited tolorence for mixtures that are anything
other than perfect. This makes them perfectly suited to modern
fuel-injected engines where tolorences are extremely tight, and wholly unsuited for
use in a 40-year-old carbureted engine whose mixture tolorences are plus or
minus a week. When used in a carbureted engine, platinum plugs are known to
fizzle out in fairly short order. If your mixture is spot-on they might
last a bit longer; some here have reported platinum plug failures in as little
as 50 miles.
Ditch the high-dollar platinum plugs, and simply install standard plugs for
a 351C (NGK, Autolite, Motorcraft, whatever) and you'll live happily ever
after. :>)
