Whoops.   There's your problem.   Platinum plugs are great, but have 
specific uses.   They have a very limited tolorence for mixtures that are anything 
other than perfect.   This makes them perfectly suited to modern 
fuel-injected engines where tolorences are extremely tight, and wholly unsuited for 
use in a 40-year-old carbureted engine whose mixture tolorences are plus or 
minus a week.   When used in a carbureted engine, platinum plugs are known to 
fizzle out in fairly short order.   If your mixture is spot-on they might 
last a bit longer; some here have reported platinum plug failures in as little 
as 50 miles.

Ditch the high-dollar platinum plugs, and simply install standard plugs for 
a 351C (NGK, Autolite, Motorcraft, whatever) and you'll live happily ever 
after. :>)
